What’s New At EU? The Education Cloud

As of today, we have updated the interface of The Education Cloud to better serve the modern classroom in time for the new school year. This update is automatic so there’s nothing you will need to do, but all changes are outlined in full below.

The Education Cloud was built to host Education Umbrella’s digital products. As teachers and students used various computers and devices throughout the day we needed to build something that made it easy to access the content they needed, be it interactive videos or digital textbooks.

After a full academic year, we realised we needed to change how The Education Cloud platform looked and worked across all devices. The volume of schools accessing their TECbooks from iPads and Chromebooks necessitated a platform that was practical for use across every screen size. In an architectural nutshell, we’ve moved from a side-scrolling interface to a single page web app layout. The new menu navigation optimises searches for your resources since they’re now grouped by type, namely: books, videos and lesson plans.

This means it’s now incredibly easy to find the resource you want to access, whether you’re on a phone, tablet, or a computer. We’ve also included a search box, so for users who have hundreds of TECbooks and TECvideos, finding the resource they want is only one title search away. A link will be present in every resource category that is empty. For instance, if you don’t own a TECvideo, you can follow the link back to the shop and purchase a resource of that type to help you fill your boots!

The Activation Code box now takes prime position at the top of the dashboard to make it quicker and easier for students to get online and using TECbooks. A teacher can bring up the activation code for the resource they’re teaching with, students can pop it into the box, and without registration or login, they’re then online using the book.

Previously, any time a student accessed a book via an activation code, or you chose to give someone a TECbook via their email address, you would receive an email letting you know that this had happened. Now, thanks to the settings panel, you can control what emails you get sent. All emails are turned on by default, but you can turn off each one if you so choose. We’re hoping this will make your inbox a bit less daunting!

As we move forward we’re aiming to introduce further resources that can be accessed on the Education Cloud. By the end of September, we will have lesson plans available to buy in the Education Umbrella shop that will then be hosted in The Education Cloud once purchased. This will make it quick and easy for you share them with other teachers, or to access them when you switch devices. Another big change we’re looking into is how teachers can access the data about students using TECbooks. When we begin to introduce these changes, we will send out an email.

We hope that these updates will make the transition to digital easier for schools. If you think we’ve missed a feature please feel free to get in touch via our contact us page or comment here.
